The City of Gaylord has one full-time, seasonal position available for Downtown Maintenance Laborers. This position, under the supervision of the Department of Public Works Superintendent, performs a wide variety of unskilled or semi-skilled tasks and operates a variety of equipment related to the general care and maintenance of the Downtown District and other designated areas. This position waters and maintains the flowers in Downtown Gaylord, as well as performs other duties related to the care and maintenance of Downtown and the Downtown Landscaping.
Desired Minimum Qualifications:
Must have valid Driver License
Education and Experience:
(A) Graduation from high school education or GED equivalent, and/or
(B) Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods and procedures used in landscaping, gardening, and maintenance activities;
- General knowledge of plants and their proper care.
- Skill in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment, including motorized vehicles such as a pickup truck or lawn mower, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, mobile radio, phone, and hose.
- Ability to perform manual tasks for extended periods of time indoors and outdoors; ability to work safely; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Employees hired for this position will be required to pass pre-employment drug screening and physical tests.
Wage: $16.50 Work schedule: Monday through Friday 7:00am – 3:30pm
